EcoScent™

(Called EctoPhyte in the USA)

Use: Parasiticide

Originally developed to control external parasites, EcoScent™ is also effective at repelling flies. EcoScent ™ contains castor oil, essential oils of orange, eucalyptus, citronella, clove, anise and neroli, and a coconut oil-based surfactant. These aromatic compounds (which interfere with the adult and larval stages) immobilize parasites such as lice that live their whole lives on the skin, and therefore interrupt their life cycle and eradicate the problem. Ecto-Phyte ™ is both oil and water soluble.

A 2003 study to compare the effectiveness of chemical and organic pesticides showed that “both the chemical delouser, Cydectin, and the organic delouser, EcoScent, were equally efficient in treating and controlling the lice infestations of the UMass Belted Galloway cattle.

Benefits

  • Safe.
  • Effective.
  • Cost-effective.
  • Readily available.

Directions for Use

For Minor Infestations:

  • Dilute 1 part Ecto-Phyte™ with 20 parts water.
  • Shake well before use.
  • Mist livestock liberally, being careful to cover legs, dewclaws, hocks, flanks, tail and ears.
  • Avoid spraying the animals’ eyes nose and mouth.
  • Spray walls and ceilings of stall area as needed.

For Major Infestations:

  • Dilute 1 part Ecto-Phyte™ with 10 parts of water and use as described above.
  • Add 1 part Ecto-Phyte™ to 40-50 parts vegetable oil to use as an oil “rub.” Agri-Dynamics recommends using peanut oil, however organic soybean oil is effective, more affordable, and more readily available.

Notes

  • Use at a dilution rate and frequency that matches the level of infestation and the temperature. High summer temperatures coupled with heavy fly populations require a more concentrated dilution and daily application.
