Garlic, Dehydrated
Use: Parasiticide
Garlic (allium sativum) is a member of the onion family. Its close relatives include the shallot, leek, and chive. Garlic probably originated in Asia but has become widely naturalized. Allium canadense, the plant we know in Canada as wild garlic, is a relative.
Garlic has been used throughout history for culinary and medicinal purposes. It is mentioned in the Bible and the Talmud. Hippocrates, Galen, Pliny the Elder and Dioscorides all mention its use for a number of conditions, including parasites, respiratory problems, poor digestion and low energy.
A farmer in Idaho has used garlic combined with the other practices since 1992 to control internal parasites in sheep and as a general health-booster. Every fecal test done by his vet since then has shown zero or very low worm counts.
When a farmer in eastern Ontario started feeding garlic to a 20-year old horse, the eyes lit up. It became much more alert and the insect nuisance decreased considerably.
Benefits
- Crushing or cutting garlic creates allicin, one of garlic’s active ingredients against parasites. Garlic kills parasites and controls secondary fungal infections, detoxifies and stimulates elimination. It also contains antioxidants that protect against oxidation caused by parasites’ toxins.
- Effective against roundworm, Giardia lamblia, Trypanosoma, Plasmodium, and Leishmania, also against fleas and ticks.
- Strengthens the immune system.
