Nutra-Fix™ hay Forage Silage Preservative
Uses: Other | hay, Forage, Silage Preservative
Probiotics have been described as the opposite of antibiotics. While antibiotics kill bacteria, probiotics promote the development of normal, desirable bacteria. A probiotic can be a live (viable) culture of a microbial species, a dead (nonviable) product of microbial fermentation or an extract of plant origin.
Nutra-Fix™ Hay Forage Silage Preservative is a liquid concentrate based on organic food-grade ingredients from natural sources. It contains a stable Lactobacillus acidophilus lactis fermentation extract for use on hay, silage and forage.
Alfalfa contains its maximum content of crude protein and digestible dry matter at the pre-bud stage of growth. As the plant matures, valuable nutrients decrease and crude fibre content increases. Baling mature alfalfa hay that has a lower moisture content shatters the leaves, which is where approximately 70% of the plant’s protein is contained, and therefore vastly reduces its nutrient content. Nutra-Fix™ allows hay to be baled at higher moisture content and minimize the loss of leaves.
Nutra-Fix™-treated hay baled in one-ton square bales at 20% moisture contained 12% more crude protein than untreated bales harvested at 14% moisture. The treated bales contained 11% more digestible protein. When the bales were opened and evaluated, all the treated bales were classified as high quality, free from heat damage and/or mould.
