Nutra-Fix™ Liquid Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product

Probiotics have been described as the opposite of antibiotics. While antibiotics kill bacteria, probiotics promote the development of normal, desirable bacteria in the gut, allowing them to dominate over the undesirable pathogens such as e.coli. A probiotic can be a live (viable) culture of a microbial species, a dead (nonviable) product of microbial fermentation or an extract of plant origin. Probiotics are used routinely to increase rumen function and improve health. They colonize the digestive tract with beneficial flora, suppress unwanted organisms by competitive exclusion, improve feed conversion, stimulate immune response, improve the appetite and the response to stressful situations that affect digestion and health (weather changes, extreme heat and cold, feed changes, moulds and toxins in the feed).

The Nutra-Fix™ liquid product uses a non-pathogenic strain of lactobacillus acidophilus that does not contain a novel trait. The product is especially useful in inoculating newborns with beneficial digestive bacteria to ward off disease and kick start the digestion process.

A very large dairy farm in Eastern Ontario was having a serious problem with diarrhea and scours among the new-born calves. Given the large herd and the close quarters, disease spread quickly and persist in the surroundings. The death rate among newborns was around 25%. Using Nutra-Fix liquid at birth, calves responded immediately, took milk easily and gained weight quickly. The death rate dropped to nearly zero.

Directions for Use

Add to the milk or squirt directly into the mouth at each feeding time until weaned then switch to the Nutra-Fix™ dry fermentation product.

• Calves: 0.14 oz or 4 g. per day
• For calves with dysentery, scouring or diarrhea: Form a ping – pong size ball of slippery elm (approx 0.5 oz or 14 g). Empty 4 capsules of Nutra- Fix Pro-Blend™ into the centre of the ball. Squirt the fermentation liquid generously over the ball until the entire ball becomes pasty. Insert into calf’s mouth
• and force a swallow. Repeat 3 times a day for 2 – 3 days, as needed.
• Piglets: 0.03 – 0.06 oz or 1 – 2 g. per day
• Poultry: 1 oz/gallon or 30 mL/3.7 L of water. Add to water line and use at above dosage for 7 – 10 days, then reduce by 50% until birds are shipped.
• Lambs and Kids : 0.06 oz or 2 g. per day.
