Our values
Tom, Isabelle, Yannick, and the staff at Homestead Organics are in business to serve you and the community. Our motivation is driven by a set of strong values and beliefs.
Roots in the Community
The Manley family is on the farm and in the Berwick community since before confederation. In the 1850's, our ancestor Thomas Manley immigrated to Canada from Ireland, obtained some crown land, and cut the trees down to plant his first crops. Every generation of Manleys was a leader in the community. Peter Manley was the county's provincial member of Parliament for 12 years in the 1950's and 60's. Tom Manley is heavily engaged in various community activities.
Transparency
For all businesses and farmers to succeed, we need to establish a win-win relationship based on trust and transparency. Homestead Organics is the only organic grain business, that we are aware of, that publishes its full price list and its buy-sell prices for grains on the Internet.
Quality
We eat organic and it has to be good. We believe in products of top quality in terms of freshness, nutritional value, and excellent performance on your farm. We minimize the use of by-products in our feeds and we clean the small grains before making feed. We are sometimes slightly more expensive than some competitors, but we provide great value for the price.
Support and Development
Our mission is to serve and develop organic agriculture. Contrary to our single-product competitors, we diversify our product offering to make it easier for you, deal directly with farmers to buy grains to minimize the cost of brokers, and provide expert support in agronomy and livestock nutrition.
Organic is Best
We chose our line of business for a reason. We believe that organic is best for people, animals, and the environment. We are wholly dedicated to organic agriculture, invest in organic associations, and develop organic production by reaching out to all farmers.
Triple Bottom Line
We believe in the triple bottom line of profitability, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. The sustainability of our business and our community depends on the balanced care of these three pillars. We treat our staff fairly, act with compassion, and pay competitive fair wages. We invest in our community, in our parks, our social clubs, and our support networks. We maintain a low environmental footprint, minimize our power consumption, and place a strong priority on local transportation to secure supplies and reach markets.
We invite you to join us in this win-win relationship.
